Amhrán - The Hullabaloo
“When I was a boy of twenty-three, ¶ I courted a maid one age to me; ¶ Well, surely, I said, I would make her my bride, ¶ We being one age and the same day baptised”
This song was composed by Mr. Bart. Sullivan himself, about the year 1900.
It was suggested by the home-coming from America of a certain man, who, before he left Ireland, had a little romance, but who appeared now, to be a bit snobbish.
"The Hullabaloo."
When I was a boy of twenty-three,
I courted a maid one age to me;
Well, surely, I said, I would make her my bride,
We being one age and the same day baptised.
Chorus.
But ah! ha-ha! me boys beware of them
Dear! Oh Dear! What a promise can do
2.
But, I being a boy of enterprise,
I sought my fortune 'neat foreign skies
I then returned, a "purchase" to make
Of course not expecting to meet this oul' rake
Chorus
But Ah! ha-ha! sure that wasn't all of it,
Dear! Oh Dear! My promise came through.
