“My grandmother told me that when she was a little girl weddings were different to what they are now.”
My grandmother told me that when she was a little girl, weddings were different to what they are now. At every wedding there used to be between twenty and thirty saddle horses, and the riders used to gallop as fast as they could to see who would reach the wedding house first has punch the men, and the women too, used to drink. Whiskey was only seven pence a half [pint?] and they used boil pots of hot water and throw the whiskey into them. The punch for the women used to be a little weaker than the punch for the men. They used to be dancing and singing till morning. Twas mostly all Irish songs- Faisnéiseoir
