  1. Long ago people wore no shoes until they were fifteen or sixteen years. Women only wore shoes seldom. When they were going to mass they did not put on their shows until they were near the chapel, and when they were coming home they took them off again when they come out of the chapel.
There is only one show-maker in my district. He makes boots and repairs them. There were more show-makers long ago because it was shoe-makers who made all the boots. There were cobblers who mended boots. Long ago the women wore clogs. The [?] were made of leather and the soles were made of timber. Some women wear clogs at present. They also wore perk shoes. These were made by getting perk and melting it to make the soles. These soles were melted on to the leather uppers. You could not go near the fire with these boots because the soles would melt.
There is an account of a woman who never wore boots or shoes. Children let off their shoes in Summer but the old people do not let them off at all.
