- There are about six forges in my locality but there are only three of them in the country. The smiths are Dalys, Duffys, Caulfield, Traynor, Mc Quaid, Barker, Mc Manus and Lynch. Caulfield's, Duffy's and Daly's forges are situated in the country. Caulfield's, Duffy's and Daly's fathers and grandfathers were smiths long ago. Daly's forge is situated beside an old lane and Caulfield's forge is situated on the roadside and a stream passes by the side of it. John Duffy's forge is situated at a crossroads beside a river.
Caulfield's forge is a large forge and it is made of zink and the roof is flat. You can easily recognise it by the cement ring at the side of it beside the stream and by the little zink pipe through which the smoke comes out and disappears into the sky. The door is made in the shape of a horse shoe and beside the fire there is a window. The bellows are old ones and they are round(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
