There is a rock on Crieve Mountain which is known as the Altar Rock for it was used by priests in the Penal Days as an altar for offering up the Mass.

IT resembles a real altar. There is is a column of rock representing a real stand for the Mass Book. There is also a cavity in it to hold water said to be used by the priest to wash his fingers.
You would imagine the altar had been hewn out by a sculptor.
It was an ideal place in those days.
It commanded a view of the country for about ten miles and
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
