- Long ago people used to get married in the home. Patrick Tuck of Ballinakill was married in his own house. The priest used to go to the house and say Mass and marry the two people. It is said that the Month of May in an unlucky month to get married because there are alot of superstitions carried on that month and Saturday is supposed to be an unlucky day, also. The straw boys still go around when marriages take place, around shrove they go around dressed up with vizards on their faces and they going around from one hous to another dancing.
