  1. (continued from previous page)
    There was a man ne'er a man
    Has a gun ne'er a gun
    Shot a bird ne'er a bird
In a tree neer a tree.
    A boy with a pop-gun, shooting a bumble-bee on a thistle.

Through a rock, through a "ree".(?)
    Through an old oak tree.
Through a basin full of pepper.
    Through an old car-lepper.
    Through a man's shin-bone
Through a thing that was never known?
    A cannon ball.

Then she is across the road
And the priest's breakfast for a load?
    A hen with an egg.

    As green as grass,
    Goes white to mass?
    Flax.
