- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)she sat down to wait his return. After a while she felt something tugging the hem of her dress. On looking down she saw a large eel twisting and twirling round the leg of the table. It had a human head and the grinning up-turned countenance was that of her husband. Shrieking and screaming wildly she fell into a swoon, and the wriggling eel jumped, through the window into the Lough, where it is said to remain to this day.
On stormy nights when the wind is howling it is said to be the shrieks of the hapless lady, driven mad through curiosty. The bashing waters are said to be the hapless husband in the form of the eel, struggling to break the enchantment in answers to his wife's cries.- Faisnéiseoir
