- There was a man names James Coffey living in our district about 70 years ago. He was champion wrestler of Kildare and Dublin. He won the championship for three ears in succession at the Pheonix Park, Dublin.
He was also a great football and handball player. He must have been a very strong man because he was able to turn a horse cart with one hand. He earned his living by driving hay to the Dublin markets and was often seen asleep on the top of the load of hay. His mother was always saying that he would be found dead under the horses feet. One night, as he was returing from Dublin markets, the horse went to the side of a ditch for a driink. The cart turned over and Coffey was found dead, with a broken neck. This happened 70 years ago.
