- Old Crafts.Long ago before mills were founded for th emaking of candles, the people made them themselves.Candles were made by the following methods, first there were a few pounds of sheeps fat put on a pan and melted down. Then it was poured into specially made moulds. Then a piece of wick was placed in the middle of the mould and left to set. The moulds been made by the village black-smith and the wick was a piece of cord.Another way candles were made was to gather rushes in the Spring and stored in a loft to dry. At the end of the Summer when the rushes were well dried they were steeped in fat. Then four or five were tied tightly together in the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
