    There was a hedge-school long ago in Ballyteague in a field now owned by Keenan's Ballyteague.

    held. The subjects that were taught were English, Arithmetic, Spelling, and some geography. There were Catechism classes held in some houses after Mass on Sundays. In Callans house in Littletown a man named James Brennan taught catechism, and in Garry's in Ballyteague, there was another class where William and Thomas Garry taught in their turns. There was also a class in the house now owned by Patrick Harte, and a Miss Callan and Patrick Callan taught these. Some of the books they used in schools long ago were:- A reading made easy, spelling book, Lesson book and in Catechism. The infants
