During the Famine people lived on yellow meal and turnips.

During the Famine people lived on yellow meal and turnips.
At ordinary times they had stirabout in the morning. Potatoes and butter-milk for dinner with sometimes a red-herring. The stirabout was cut in slices sometimes and fried in a pan.
They used to make hard oaten bread. When going to America they brought six or more of these cakes with them to eat on the way.
