- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Many local chieftains and heroes lived in the olden days. Some lived in my district and I have picked up an account of some of them. Every month the families named Guihens and Gaffneys used to go to Lasar's Well and fight there. As each one of these parties were evenly balanced in power they fought at this place to try and gain the headship of the parish.
It is with sticks they fought and the Guihens were known ever afterwards as the Bothies which is the Irish word for a stick. It is said they used to be in every hedge and ditch looking for sticks. The fights were very often severe and the blood flowed across the road opposite Lasar's gate.One day as they were going to fight they stopped at Greyfield bridge known at that time as the "little bridge" near the village of Keadue.
