Halfdoors are common now and were common in olden times. Turf and wood were used for a fire. The light was got from rushes called rush-candles. This is the way the rush-candles were made; the rushes used to be peeled and dipped in grease and left to dry and then they were put down in a rod and the rod was put down in a sod of turf to represent a candle stick.
