There are a number of old customs, connected, with churning. Some coals from the fire, are placed under the churn, to protect the butter, which is to be made, from the fairies.
Every stranger, who comes, in, while the butter is being made, must give the handle, two or three turns, to bring luck, and also to show, that they have ill feeling to the people.
