Churning
I have a churn at home - a dash churn, it is four feet high and about two feet wide at top and bottom, the sides are round in shape, and it is about twenty years old. The parts are the lid, the dash, the handle and the 'joggler.' I never saw any mark on the side or bottom of it. Butler is made two or three times each week in Summer and once a week in Winter. My mother or sister usually does the churning and if a stranger happens to come in, while the churning is in process, he or she takes a turn at it, for fear he or she would bring the butter, the churning takes half an-hour, three-quarters of an hour and sometimes one hour to make, and it is done by hand, lifting the dash up and down. Sometimes, when the butter is gathering the dash is 'rolled' from side to side You know when the butter is made when the dash gets heavy or when(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
