- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)proceeded to carry the coffin with every outward appearance of grief and distress. The funeral procession and the forty military with their prisoners met at Newmarket. Both processions got mixed up, and before the military knew exactly where they were they were disarmed and the prisoners were liberated. Hence the name of the "Liberators" by which the men of the mock funeral were know afterwards. The military implored the "Liberators" to return their arms to them, and told them amongst other things calculated to move the simple, truthful peasantry, that they would be shot if they returned to barracks without their arms. The "Liberators" believing their story, gave back the arms to the military. The moment the soldiers got the arms safely in their hands they fired on the "Liberators".
