“Dunkitt + Kilmacow were great milling districts at one time.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)kilns were attached. The floor of the drying kilns were made of tiles which were porous. The wheat was put on this floor after being cleaned thoroughly (its floor was cleaned) Fires were let in the furnaces under this floor. Kilkenny coal was used to heat the wheat and dry it. The coal was all carted from Castlecomer a distance of about 35 miles or so.The mills are numerous
And their powers are great
The wheels are turning
At a furious rate
Grinding the corn
And Ill tell you true
Those are the times
They get plenty to do.This is one of the verses of a song on the milling industry here.- Práipín in Dunkitt was made in a piggin[Drawing] - Piggin(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
