“Milk stealing by well skimming etc was prominent in Drumkitt + Kilmacow...”

Milk was supposed to be found in the farmyards and on the doors when people were milk-stealing as already mentioned- There were no brudges across the river Blackwater. Fords were crossed by stepping on large stones flat ones generally to provide sound footing. If the river were in flood people had to wade through or swim across on horseback if very deep.
- The houses were generally made of mud-walls & thatched. No Irish spoken by the people presently. Older people had & spoke Irish amongst themselves up to 60 years ago They however did not talk Irish to their children but only when they wanted to say something they did not want the children to understand.
