Before he touched a bit himself he went to the pot of stirabout (oaten) & ladle out a big plate and gave it along with a big quart of milk to the "poor woman" She took the plate & took one spoon herself & then a spoon to each of the five children as the narrator says "as the wren feeds her young. When the farmer saw this he filled the plate several times before all were satisfied.
Several people accompanied Kitty Malachy in search of the treasure but none was ever found She always firmly believed in the lurgadán & was always on the look-out to catch him. She would leave her work if she heard anything like a tapping sound and make a diligent search before resuming her work. This led to several tricks being played on her by the children of the district- Faisnéiseoir
