    He first placed the iron rod on the anvil and cut it with the hammer and chizel into suitable lengths for the various kinds of nails. He then heated one of these lengths in the fire and took it out with the tongs, and holding it up right on the anvil hammered the end which was up thus forming the head of the nail. They then returned it to the fire, and when it was hot he took it out again and laying it flat on the anvil hammered the other end till he got it to a sharp point. Then the nail was finished.
    All nails were made in this manner. It was surely a very slow process, and people of the present day would scarcely believe that nails were ever made in this way. The last nailer that lived in the Rower was a man by the name of William Curran and the house in
