up to Hugginstown to say Mass.
My father says when the parish was divided that Father Darcy was made parish priest of the Aghavillar part and went to live up in Hugginstown but he was always lonesome and pining for Ballyhale and used to come down as far as Carrickshock on the borders of the two parishes and stand for an hour looking down at Ballyhale.
Ballyhale is mentioned in several songs and sayings. Here is a bit of one.
'Oh, Ballyhale, you ne'er did fail
You were foremost in the strife
To strike a blow at Carrickshock
    For liberty and life.
Two lines of another song are
    Ye gallant Gaels of Ballyhale,
    Attend to what I say.
    One of the sayings is,
'Ballyhale toast safe home and no blame.
