The morning dawned fair on the mountain and the mist rolled away to the glen
While those heroes awaited the coming of Gibbons his proctor and men
Each stalwart hand grasped his weapon the hurley the pitchfork or scythe
For by the blue heavens above them those men will no longer pay the tithe
From the East and the West they are coming those mountain-men stalwart and tall
Not afraid of their country's oppressor nor bayonet nor musket and ballII
But hark to that sound in the valley its plainer as moments go by
Its the peelers and proctors that's marching with Gibbons himself drawn nigh
Drawn nigh once more to serve citation to claim the tenth part it again
"No proctors you'll never collect it" with a voice cried the bold mountain men
