  1. A short time after the famine the Marquis of Waterford used to come to Mullinavat every week. He was a very cruel man and liked to see people suffering. When he arrived he would go into an old shed and light a fire he would then put (get) a fist of silver and put it on a red shovel and throw it down to the crowd below. The people would throw the money up and down trying to prevent their hands from being burnt. He would not allow them to put anything on their hands.
