- In this district there are many ruined Castles. Grennan Castle was built by a Norman Knight named Thomas Fitz Anthony during the twelfth century. It is situated on a small hill to the south-east of Thomastown.
It was attacked and besieged by Cromwell when on his way to Clonmel in 1680.
Once it was surrounded by water having a drawbridge for crossing. People thought long ago, that gold was hidden there, and went to dig up the mound but found none there.
There is a local story told about a family of Dens who once lived in the Castle. The man disobeyed the king(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
