Jerpoint Abbey was built by Donal Mac Padraig about the year 1150. It was erected in the townland of Jerpoint in the barony of Gowran. It was plundered by Henry the eight, and all its silver and gold ornaments were confiscated, and the monks had to abandon it. It still contains some sculptured stone figures of the Abostles. There are inscriptions both in Irish and in Latin on the ancient carvings.- Bailitheoir
