This is the story of how the robin got her red breast. When Our Lord was dying on the Cross, the wren refused to pick a thorn from his head, but when the robin came, she pulled it out, and in doing so the Blood of Our Lord fell on her breast, and ever since all the robins have red breasts.

One day the wood-pigeon asked the crow how to build a nest. Then the crow said, "Get me some sticks and I'll show you." When the wood pigeon had the sticks gathered, she gave them to the crow, and then he started to build the nest. When he had some of it built he asked the wood pigeon if she knew now how to build that much. "I do," said the pigeon, "I will build the rest myself."
"Very well if you will," said the crow flying off. Then the wood pigeon tried to build it but failed, and ever since the wood pigeon builds only half a nest.
