ELDER BERRIES - Were used for dying clothes long ago
GRASS - The grass in this district is very nutritious.
WHITE CLOVER - White clover springs up spontaneously but is often choked with rushes. Sometimes it is sewn with grass seed and long ago it was mowed two or three times a year. Oats were also mixed with it and cut green for fodder by which arrangement the farmer estimated that one acre was more productive than 4 acres of common pasture.
FURZE - Long ago the tops of furze were used as fodder. They were prepared by being pounded in a stone trough and greedily eaten by horses. They also served as medicine.
