- In this district a story is told of Fionn Mac Cumhaill when he lived on the Hill of Allen. It is said that he as fought a giant for three whole days but one could not get the better of the other. In the end they decided to throw two stones, and whoever threw the farther was to win. Fionn's stone landed in Punchestown and the giant's in Osbourne's field, and so Fionn won.
