A man named Harvey (gr) who was a resident of Rathcoole gave away some secrets to the English during the '98 rebellion. The people of Rathcoole were so angry that Mr Harvey was obliged to hide for many months in a cave for fear of being killed. by the inhabitants of Rathcoole by cursing him.
"That the name of Harvey would die out" was the curse which was put on him
There are five Harveys living in Rathcoole now, three bachelors and two spinsters.
