  2. A number of rushes are gathered and left and left until dry. Sallies are gathered, dried and peeled. Sometimes they are smoked to give a brown colour. Some thick sallies are split to form the foundation of the basket. The rushes are plaited, some horizontally others vertically around the sallies. This is continued until the basket is completed.
