be induced to come live there again. Sean Gabhar was killed with a blow of a turf-man's slane by his enraged neighbours and his body flung into a bog-hole.
Rush Hall Castle or Court was built by the first or second Earl of Mountrath. There were, at the time in the place two ruined castles with several houses and cabins. The "Court" awakens no memories among the people but those of lawless tyranny and bloodshed. It was called Rush Hall from Mary Rush of Meath first wife of the first earl of Mountrath. The Cootes lived here for about 120 years and then the Court gradually became the complete ruin it now is.
Rush Hall Inn, on the roadside nearly opposite the Court is, traditionally said to have been erected to accomodate the men employed in building the Court.
Miss Roe now lives in dwelling- house beside the old "Court" and Thomas Phelan lives in the "Inn" on the opposite side of the road.
