- Denis Cavanagh age 79 years, remembers flat cars wide at back and sloping towards front to be in use. Two kinds Creels,Kishes were used with these, high ones for turf drawing and a low one about high was filled with straw. On this latter kind the women or men attended funerals. The better class wore a quilt as a covering. The Creels were made from hazel and sally rods.
The wheels were held in place on the axle by a sally gad. The axle revolved with the wheel. The driver had to got provided with grease for fear of the vehicle taking fire. The rim of wheel was thickly studded with flat headed nails (heads about the diameter of a penny) These prevented them from wearing out. Bottom of car composed of flat boards with a division between each; a raised edge around prevented creels slipping out of place.- Faisnéiseoir
