    There was a good many fires in this district. First of all Mr Stanley's hay shed about one and a half miles from Rathdowney. Some people say it happened like this. Anyone passing the shed might have thrown a lighted cigarette on the by accident and after a while it started to lighted because the hay was very dry when it occurred. Several tons of were burned, also a calf, two dogs, and a hay cart. The shed was completely destroyed.
    The Durrow Mill Stores was also burned in Rathdowney. It is believed that mice scratched matches and they went on fire. The Ossory shop also went on fire because a lighted match was dropped where oil was
