now some years previously one John Maher, Harristown Rathdowney caught these two Harveys sheep stealing, and now that the trial was on in Kilkenny and engaging much interest, John Maher decided on going in to see how the case was going.
Just outside the city Maher inquired of a man how the trial was progressing, and he was told that now after three days, things looked very black. "Sure, who would believe a word cut of the mouths of the Harveys" said Maher. "Sure, I caught them myself stealing sheep. Come along at once to O'Connell." said his friend and with such a witness against the members of the Force, O'Connell won his case and cleared the boys.
