- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)did he teach it. Reading, writing and counting and figures were the subjects taught. the pupils had no spacial books, only if they could get any old story book or pamphlet they could use it in the school as a reading book. There was no blackboard in the school. The master wrote on the walls of the "Shantee".
Payment was made by the pupils. Each child brought 1p or more on a Monday morning.
When a fine was needed each child carried a sod of turf.
The above Mr. Purcell was the first teacher appointed in Graigue School after it was built by Lord Castletown. He went to America shortly after his appointment and then Mr. Lyons was appointed in his place.17. 11. 37
