It is over fifty years ago since the dead coach was heard on this school road. It was supposed to travel on it at regular intervals, and its sound was like that which a barrel of stones would make when rolling down a hill, at terrible speed. On one occasion, two persons who lived on this road were returning home from rambling about the hour of midnight they heard the roaring sound coming nearer and nearer. In order to escape from the approaching dead coach they lay down low in the bottom of the dike. The rumbling came still nearer until opposite where they lay, it rose into the air and grew silent. Each of the men grew somewhat weak and were afraid to go alone, each to his own house.
