    peeled them. They dipped the peeled rushes in the tallow. Then they put the candles in a candle-shape which was for the purpose and left them to cool. When cooled the candles were hung up by twine until needed. Candle-sticks for these candles were specially made by the blacksmith.
    Potato baskets were made in this district in olden times. The people cut sally rods and left them to season for a while. Then they shaped them into a basked and put a rim around it. The handles were made of stronger sallies.
    The also used to burn lime in kilsn. In doing this they used to build a kiln. They made a strong fire of slack or coal breakage in the kiln. Then big lime stones were collected and put upon the fire in the kiln. These would burn until white lime. When cooled it was fit for use.
