yore ought to have a peculiar interest for the people of this district. We ought to be interested because the leaders of those men were from Nemid's fort of Lisserdrea, on the plains of Boyle. They had adopted Boyle for their home and Ireland for their country, and so we could call these Nemidian Kings ''the men from the plains of Boyle.''
In this locality there is a fort called Dúnamias which is situated to the south of Boyle, about one mile distance from the town. The Monks, when expelled from the Cistercian Abbey, rested here to take their meal, watching their old home beneath them in the fertile valley of Boyle, hence the name Dún na Míss or the ''Fort of the Dishes.''
The fort is pyramid (in) shape, fenced round by wire. This fort, it is said, is guarded by a dog of abnormal size, and has been seen by pedestrians of the night on many occasions, but he is harmless or at least he is supposed to be, as he was never known to attack anybody. It is understood that this phantom-guard has never been encountered beyond the vicinity of Dunamese. It is said that Mr. Henry Morris visited the place and inspected the fort.
Close to the fort is a mound which is supposed to mark the burial place of some noble. This is situated in the townland of Knockadoo-busna.
