A search was made. Everyone who owned a boat set out. They were armed with sheaves of oats which were set sailing on the water and when the sheaves floated on the water over where the bodies were they spun round quickly. The bodies of the three unfortunate youths were found fairly near to each other not a great distance from the Callow Shore of Lough Gara. St. Patrick's Day that year was a day of grief and mourning not alone for the members of the three young men's families, but their companions and in fact the sad fatality cast a gloom over the entire neighbourhoods of both sides of Lough Gara.
