  1. There was an old school held in Pat Morrisroe's barn Briarfield. Mary Morrisroe taught in it. The children who went to her had to bring her three - pence every evening or else food. It was all English that was spoken. There was no Irish taught. Irish books were never used. The writing was done with slates and slate pencils. No blackboards was used. Some of the children used to bring a seat from their own house. Mary Morrisroe was Pat Morrisroe's aunt and she lived there always.
