- In olden times meals were not studied in the same way as they are to -day. Scarcely any variety existed in them save on special occasions as Xmas, Easter & Weddings.
Potatoes and butter-milk was the diet generally used and those three times a day.
The common custom in this district was to pull the table out to the centre of the floor & the household seated themselves around it. In Lent salt herrings were used at dinner. The herring was roasted on a grid iron, placed in a dish and set floating in hot water.
