- In this district on St. Stephen's Day parties of boys decorate their clothes with coloured ribbons, and go from house singing the wren song. They take with them a long stick, on the top of this they tie a branch of holly and pieces of ivy. The practise of tieing a dead wren on the stick has now died away.
There are different versions of the "Wren Song" in other parts of the country but they all begin with the following words:
The Wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
St. Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze,
Although he's little his family's great,
Rise up old lady and give us our treat.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
