  1. About a hundred and fifty years ago, there was a school near the village of Baltimore. That school was built at the cross leading into the Tullagh graveyard. It was a thatched school and had one window. The teachers name was Michael Shine, he was from the village of Baltimore After being teaching in the school some time he was succeeded by his brother Corneilus Shine. Those teachers got no pay only school fees, the first class gave a shilling a quarter, and the second class two shillings and so on a shilling higher every class. Very few went higher than fourth class in those days. They used write on slates with slate pencils. They taught all subjects except Irish. The people had great regard for those teachers.
