    of the family at marriages. The tenants had no lease of the land and they could be evicted any time the landlord liked. Under the Coercion [?] Act they could be punished for trivial acts. Tithes in both money and kind. They were collected for the support of the ministers of the English Church as well as for the upkeep of the Church itself. the people resented paying them and many small skirmishes were fought in places where the landlords' agents came to collect the Tithes.
