Three of the I.R.A. were fatally wounded.
When news reached Macroom Castle the English were enraged and came out the next day to burn the whole place but the Parish priest interviewed the officer-in-charge and told him he had preached against ambushes on a previous Sunday. This the officer found to be true and thereby the people were spared their homes with the exception of two or three who were compensated afterwards.
