   The Black Robber

   The Black Robber as he was called, because he would steal anything he would see. St Abby had a white horse and he came and stole a horse. He jumped on the horse's back and off far home with him, as he thought, but instead of going home, it was riding around the church he was all night. He was charged before St Abby in the morning for stealing the horse. The judgment she pronounced on him was to put the sign of his head up in the church over the alter in a warning to other robbers. It is to be seen there still.

   
   The Field of the Plague

   There was a contagious disease in the time of St Abby. It was killing a great number of people but St Abby never left it into Ballyvourney. She stopped it at a place called Poul na Bró
