When the shades of night had gathered Malachy summoned his men. Amongst them was Charles McCarty, the servant of Bob Hutchinson. Having blackened their faces with soot and burned straw, they set out for the castle, the residence of Hutchinson. On their arrival Duggan have his orders, Hutchinson was to be shot, and each man was given a number. Charles McCarty's number was "four".
Having obtained admission to the castle they instantly sought out its owner. The latter guessed his fate, and with the piercing vision of one clinging to a last hope recognised Charles McCarty and in terror exclaimed : "A 'Bhuidhe', what brought you here?" McCarty and his family were known as "the yellow McCartys". Malachy Duggan immediately gave the order "Number Four, do your duty". A shot rang out, and Ben Hutchinson fell dead.
I Macroom castle on the following day there were gathered together many of the English nobility and a strong force of military. It was decided to burn the houses of those who were supposed to be(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
