- About 100 years ago there were no tallow candles making in Ireland. At that time there was a certain house in each village in which candles used to be made. In the village of Cornafulla there was a certain house in it in which candles for the village used to be made.
First of all the candle-maker would sow the rushes in the bog. He would pay a great deal of attention to them. When the would be ripened he would bring them home and put them up in the chimney to dry. Then he would peel them and dip them in grease and after about four days they were fit for use. Now they have found a new way for manufacturing candles so naturally this old custom died away.- Bailitheoir
