Food In Olden Times
In former times the people had three meals a day, namely, breakfast, dinner and supper. The breakfast was eaten very early in the morning about six or half past. The dinner was eaten about one o'clock, and the supper was eaten about eight o'clock and nine o'clock would find everybody fast asleep.
The people long ago used to go to bed very early, and as the old proverb says:- early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. This was the custom of the people long ago. They used to work in the morning before having food.
The principal food at that time was potatoes and milk, especially skimmed milk or thick milk. This was their food for dinner and supper and breakfast consisted of bread and milk, or yellow meal stirabout or porridge or sometimes oaten meal and milk.
